These are the opening words to the first rap I ever wrote, in October 1986 at the age of eight. More than fifteen years later, I still find myself taking single steps of faith and allowing God to do the rest. I am Benjamin Young, better known on-stage as Theophilus, which literally means "Loved by God".
When I got to college, I felt the call to ministry on my life and began to compile songs. As the opportunities to administer my gift increased, I noticed that the need for Christian hip-hop in the college sphere was tremendous.
Now, I want every song I write to be full of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the most powerful expression of love the world has never seen. Like the songwriter said, "What the world needs now/ Is love, sweet love". I seek to introduce Love Himself to the world.(I John 4:8)
